Tara's story
On October 20, 2023, my world went dark. My baby, my 17 year old Gage, took his own life. I, along with friends and family, were in shock. There were no signs, he was a light in every room. His smile was infectious and no one was immune to it. That day, I told my husband and older son that we could not let this break us. We could embrace our grief, have all our feelings but Gage would not want us to live there. I started researching everything grief related. I sought counseling. I joined several grief groups. From this I knew I wanted to offer support to others. To share my experience, one that was true, not one that was formulated. A friend of my convinced me to train to run a marathon. During this training, I learned that having that goal, that focus, lent me a healthy distraction. I started this website to help others embrace their grief while embracing their selves. I hope to provide a safe space for feelings and to help guide others to find their healthy grief /self balance by motivating and encouraging goal setting and meeting.
Sandy's story
Hi, I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. I have lost four precious people to suicide—one my brother and one my grandson. And 2 were my husband's cousins. NONE of them were on drugs or alcohol. The reasons why are important as we try to help others with similar behavior. I have not gone to a grief counselor, friend, or priest. Unfortunately, I have held it in. It was only when my grandson passed away I realized that I had been holding a lot of grief inside. You see I am one of those people who takes care of their own when needed and I shelf my feelings for another day. That other day has come. This process that Embrace Grief and Self has set up is extremely helpful to me and it can be for you.
